By the looks of the EA blog videos, there's still field degredation, and the players seem to get dirtier than last year so I'm cool with that.

If the grass and turf is even remotely okay looking, then nobody should even be bothered by it.

Besides, I'd rather it run smooth as well as have them working on better things like blocking, rather than spend all their time making super detailed grass for every single field.

While it's not a gamekiller, and 60fps is a BIG improvement...my issue is why couldn't they have the grass/turf from last year? How could they already be bumping up against the system capabilities in the third year of the system? Hell, look at first year vs. fifth year PS2 games, hell, from third year to fifth year!

Doesn't bode well for the future...

I'll take the 60 fps over "3d grass" anyday, what do you plan on doing ? zooming in on the grass after every play and saying , "wow, look at that blade of grass on the side of his cleet" lol. I mean I still think the grass in ps2 and xbox versions have always been nice. I will take gameplay over 'eyecandy' anyday of the week.
Honestly, I really hope and will be satisfied if ncaa 08 and madden 08 play just like the current gens except that the graphics much nicer and in HD.

Grass?

The Rams, Colts, and Falcons play on turf.....thats who I plan on trying out first.

Was the grass the real reason why the game didn't run at 60 fps before? That seems a bit outlandish, but crazier things happen. Why can't we have 60 fps and good looking grass? I think I need to take a course on game programming, because video game designers run into such weird problems.

I doubt it - high res textures and some 3D effects on the grass wouldn't be a huge stress if much at all, but if they had to lower the polygon count to allow 60fps, I'd say they did everything they could before touching player models - such as the stadium, sideline detail, and the ground. It's probably more a case of engine optimization - I'd say in time they'll manage everything and 60fps.
