WHy is everyone still mad at EA for the exclusive?

I posted this on the APF thread. I thought is was good so Im starting a new thread about it. If you agree with me I would like to hear your opinion. If you dont I love to hear why.

I cant understand why people are still made at EA still. Lets remember this. IT WAS THE NFL THAT WANTED THE EXCLUSIVE. It just so happened that EA got it. So, all you NFL and 2K fans out there need to get you facts in order. Dont hate the player (EA) hate the game (NFL). It is and I will just repeat myself again, NOT EA'S FAULT. They just won. So blame 2k for putting up more money.

Here's an article on gamespot.

http://www.gamespot.com/news/6114977.html

A source close to the negotiations said it was at a spring 2004 off-site meeting attended by top NFL officials that the league determined it would take the league license exclusive. GameSpot was told the league put the license up for bid and that EA was among as many as five software publishers competing for it. An EA spokesperson said today, "Obviously, exclusives are more expensive. We are most certainly paying a premium."

Some industry insiders speculate the exclusive deal was embraced by the NFL after it saw Take-Two lower the price of its 2K5 product earlier this year. No licensor likes to see a price war being fought with its brand value at stake. At the same time, exclusive licenses in the sports world are more the norm than nonexclusive licenses. The NFL's apparel license is a Reebok exclusive, as is its beverage license with Gatorade.

This afternoon, Take-Two issued the following statement: “While sports games in general are an important part of Take-Two's product diversification strategy, the licensed NFL game we distributed on behalf of Sega this year was not a material contributor to our profitability to date, nor was it expected to be a meaningful contributor in the upcoming year. We remain committed to continued diversification of our product portfolio, including sports."

This is just like the Apple iPhone. Apple has a 5 year exclusive contract with AT&T. I have verizon and im locked into contract and im not crying cause I cant get the iPhone. I just deal with it bought the Q which I love and go on about my day.

The bottum line is that 2K fans need to start being mad a 2K for not ponying up more money. Thats why the game is $59.99 and not $19.99. 2k wanted to make some money. So for all you diehard 2k fans thinking that they put the price at 19.99 for the consumer. Think again!

Yeah, I feel pretty bad for EA. They got a raw deal.

It's become an issue again because the APF game really is quite good, for what it is, and people feel like they're missing out on what 2k could do with NFL authorization. Logic really is not a part of the argument right now.

Licensing NFL Jerseys is cool. Licensing video sport games is not. APF08 is a nice game and would have been great competition for EA. Look at the console war, Isn't great you can choose between three consoles.

EA is proud of the fact that it "aggressively defends its franchises," meaning, it would rather buy out the competition than improve its own product to the level of its competition. In the end, we the consumer loses, big time, and so we're naturally upset. I'm no rocket scientist but I really don't see why that's so difficult for anyone who is not an EA shareholder, officer or director to understand.

I understand all of that but, what im asking is why people are still targeting EA and Madden. Im talking about going on to Madden threads and just bashing the game based on vids. I played APF and yes its a good game but, its not 2K5. I thought that was a better game. 2K couldve have done anything they wanted with there football game. And they choose what they choose. They left out features that where in 2K and yet you dont see EA fanboys bashing APF. I just think its funny. 2K fans just hate EA for what the NFL did. I started this site because I just wanted the 2K fans to see what the deal was and to just refresh there memory.

Let it go Louie, let it go. You're just pouring salt and alcohol into a open wound. These threads are going to be filled with the usual suspects, making the usual arguments until the thread gets locked.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.
