I manually drop-back and step into the "pocket" all the time...The DE's don't sprint upfield and surround the QB, but they do sprint upfield and enclose the QB.




Like here, the QB is not surrounded, but he is enclosed and therefore it's not safe for him to sprint laterally (it's a "semi-pocket")...So if you don't step-up you're leaving yourself vulnerable to a pass rusher.

It would be nice if I could assign my FB/HB to chip on an individual lineman during my pre-snap adjustments, that would provide a little more strategy atleast.
