Can't make leaping catches

Hi, I'm new to this forum. I recently bought Madden 08 for PS3 after being a Madden fan of the PC version for more than 5 years. But it is a completely different game on PS3 than on the PC.

But something is making this game almost unplayable to me... I cannot make my WR and TE, etc, to leap and try and catch a pass. The problem is that the defenders will jump real high and swat the ball and my WR will never jump and try to catch the ball, so the only way to catch is if the defender miss swating the ball.

I know about the spectacular catch thing... but is this the only way to make a WR leap and catch? So the only WR that will jump up will be the ones with spectacular catch thing, like Randy Moss, etc? And even Moss won't jump everytime.

I can complete maybe just 1 in 15 in long passes... even on short passes I cannot complete that much. Like I said I am an experienced Madden player, I played Madden first in 2002, and played it every year, so it's been 5-6 years since my first Madden, so I know how to complete passes.

I am just relying on my running game, but it's really tough to win games with just the running game.

It seems that you can't be speed bursting when you hit the jump button. More so, you can't really be hitting any other buttons when you want your receiver to jump.

Same applies for CBs and Safetys. I can't ever intercept a ball because my safety won't jump to pick it off if I'm running, strafing, or anything other than standing completely still.

Just another reason this game sucks.
