Nope...and I've lost sleep over that same question a few times.

Answer for this one.... 2 modes, arcade and sim.... even seperate online modes. Problem solved. Just do it!

Then we would encounter an issue with both modes not being tuned to their fullest extent. Instead of devoting all resources to perfecting one mode of gameplay, they would have a two headed monster to deal with w/ neither mode probably being close to perfect. We see arcade/simulation modes in other games, but perhaps it would be time consuming considering Madden is already fighting uphill.

I don't see it as too big of a risk really...gamers will adapt to what you create. We do have to make a fun game at the end of the day. But fun can be defined as any number of things, and creating an accurate representation of the sport is something that can be appreciated by ALL football fans. We're trying to go big.

"Sim" changes can also typically make the game easier to play - making the control of the players much more "deliberate" (i.e. making it so it's not all about stick skills) means the game is accessible to all ranges of people. I'll never forget my uncle (who had never even played video games) beating me at Joe Montana Football on my Sega Master System...

I was way better at the game obviously, but he played the game like a real coach or player would (after all he had played a bit of high school ball). He milked the clock, he spread the ball around, he punted and took advantage of field position. Sure enough, he ended up driving down for a game winning field goal as time expired (he subsequently retired from all video gaming - wanted to go out as a champion).

That game (just due to lack of resources) allowed him to play a 'sim' style of game...as Madden has matured it's complexity and controls have made that pretty much impossible for someone that's not experienced. So if we can make it so our game is more 'sim' - that to me means that someone knowledgable of the sport can succeed. So I don't see that as too risky.
Ian I hope they move you over to the NCAA team after you fix Madden. Lord knows that team needs help!!!!!!!!!!
