Who thinks signature styles would enhance madden gameplay

Costs. Madden is a very rare game where by virtue of its license it is almost guaranteed a certain level of sales. What's more, I'd speculate that additional "features" (the marketing bullet points that end up in the promos and on the back of the box) have a greater impact on additional sales than core gameplay.

As a result, I'm sure the developers get directives on what "features" to include, and what they should spend in developing those features. I'm sure the devs also get a very tight budget for core gameplay improvements that will be transparent to most (including most of the EA stockholders). They simply can't fix the game in one year because the business guys are constantly pressing them to add "features" at the expense of spending that time on core gameplay.

I have no doubt the devs could make a killer madden if left to their own devices. It's a tough situation for the devs, but unless and until the NFL exclusivity goes away, to hope for anything more than incremental improvements in core gameplay improvements, especially at the cost of "features", is asking for too much.

It's just a shame for us as gamers that the flagship product of the largest entertainment software company in the world is managed so efficiently. It's what the stockholders and analysts have come to expect though.

Yea right, since ea has the nfl license they could only have a handful of retired Nfl players. Also, much of the Nfl2k fanbase had gone over to madden for the past several years when they had no choice other than not buying an nfl videogame.

Ok..? That still doesn't dispute the essence of my statement, which states "if the gameplay was so great, people would have bought the game."

For the record, I bought the game. MANY others obviously didn't. The gameplay wasn't enough so acting as if it is is being silly. The buying public has shown they care more about the license than the gameplay, even "much of the NFL2k fanbase" as you put it.

It doesn't matter what you compare madden to, in-fact, you don't need to compare madden to anything to realize where it has needed major improvements over the last several years. All that NFl2k did, 5 years ago!, is set an example/standard of what Madden should already have accomplished and should be exceeding at this point.

EA still can't reach the level of balance of gameplay, excitment, presentation, and features even though they had the path set for them by NFL2k5.

I really don't understand what is going on! Ea should have enough talent to have come up with presentation on there own and they haven't, and even with NFL2k5's example they still can't figure it out.

Between your constant re-posting of the same comments how you "can't understand how Madden is where it is today" to the negative postings in dealing with the developers of Madden, your posts have been nothing but un-constructive.

We get it; You like 2k5 and it's the best thing since sliced bread. If you can't be productive in the Madden forum when speaking on Madden, then maybe the ESPN NFL forum would be a better fit for you.

Sales have little to do with how well a game plays, especially when your talking about a 20 year franchise like madden.

Many highly regarding games, with great game-play don't sell much because people just buy things based on the name on the box. Look at the millions of people bought the first couple Madden games on next gen even though they had lack-luster game-play.

As for your assumptions and insults based on my viewpoint. I play Madden on Ps2/xbox so your assertion that I don't like madden is false.

I bought the very first madden on snes and have purchase madden every year, over one and a half decades! I have lived through the evolution of football games, nearly played every football game made for consoles.

I remember having arguments with my friend who had a sega genesis on whether madden or joe montana football was better.

I just feel that the next-gen version should be much better than last-gens madden or NFL2k series. I understand it takes time to adjust to the new hardware . But nearing half a decade of development of next-gen I don't feel there should be a question on which is better, do you? That's just my opinion.

Man I don't know why you tried to argue with me earlier when we both feel like Nex Gen Madden has been lackluster and after 3 installments the core of the game is still broken. I read on another thread Ian himself admitting the stats are off and accelerated needs to be in the game. Its just like a car it do not matter what you add to "enhance" the car if under the hood is filled with problems the car is worthless.
