Field Goals..does anyone care?

Ian, I'm begging, please make the field goals more challenging. Madden has neglected this important part of football for to long. 52 yard Field goals should not be automatic. This dramatic element of football is absent in what could be a fantastic game.

Look at the video capture of the Viking-Colt game. No one had trouble filling up the meter and getting great kicks.

Definitely has to be fixed but Ian said it will be changed for 2010.

Re: Field Goals..does anyone care?

You know what would be a VERY quick fix?

Adding auto kicks. Like the NBA games do with free throws, make it so gamers can choose to leave all kicks up to CPU simulation. This way, kicker ratings would matter on human teams, and since it's an option, every one wins. It would be cool to actually miss a few every so often, and I couldn't care less about not kicking it myself since it's just about as automatic as pressing one button these days anyway.

Ian, any possible way this could be an inclusion in 09? should have posted it sooner damnit, I've wanted this for years but forgot to mention it.

Re: Field Goals..does anyone care?

I don't know about anyone else but, considering how many games in real life, let alone in the madden universe are decided by 3 points or less I think FG's should be reasonably difficult. Usually I can hit 53 yards with Jeff Reed of the Steelers when his career long is 51 yards. It should also be noted that it's way too easy to kick long FG's in stadiums that are historically more difficult to kick FG's in like Candlestick or Heinz Field. In Heinz Field the longest FG kicked there was 50 yards by Vinatieri yet almost every kicker in Madden with a power rating of 89 or above can complete that task with no problem at all. That just isn't right. I think the best solution would be to recalculate the kickers power and accuracy ratings, adjust how difficult a FG attempt is and include a clutch rating where if a kicker isn't a clutch kicker it'd be way more difficult to kick a successful FG than with a kicker who's proven their a legitement clutch kicker like Vinatieri, Elam, Reed and other noteables in the NFL today.

Are there sliders that effect this?

Yes....I'm looking forward to field goals being more challenging in future games. It is way to easy as it stands now.

Re: Field Goals..does anyone care?

I completely agree. There is really no reason why this should be an issue at this point. This isn't a just Next Gen problem... For such an important part of football, this aspect of the game should have been as necessary (or more necessary) than the vision cone or lead blocking....

09 looks good though... I hope Franchise doesn't disappoint

I agree with this as well.
Not to keep comparing...but I thought 2k5's kicking was pretty good, where the arrow actually moved back and forth, mix that in with the wind, and fg attempts of considerable distance could be a real chore.

Also (iirc) the level you played on also affected the speed of the back and forth motion of the arrow...(haven't played in a long time,so if I'm wrong,I stand corrected)
