The 3-4 defense

Will it be effective in this year's game? Or will the AI never double the Nose Tackle like in previous games?

Re: The 3-4 defense

I think Ian said the logic for double teams and blocking is the same as last year.

Re: The 3-4 defense

Hopefully madden 2010 will get this down pat. Im assuming that when they redo the OL/DL that they will show love to the 3-4 defenses and make the BIG Gap eaters take a double team block and get pressure up th middle.

Re: The 3-4 defense

It's a shame it couldn't have been addressed this year. They added double blocking animations last year I believe so I thought it would have been a pretty quick fix to just change the logic behind it, i.e. defenders demanding it, not offensive plays calling for it. I guess though when you change the DL to play realistically it will have a trickle down effect where the LB's will now need to monitor the gaps realistically etc otherwise defense effectiveness may break down, so perhaps in hindsight a full year of tweaking is best to really capture it.

If done right, it will be so sweet. Potentially a landmark improvement for Madden in the realism department. It would basically make the difference between an average DT and a dominant DT perhaps the easiest to tell in the entire game when it comes to comparing player skill and impact levels, or at least right next to player speed and QB arm strength/accuracy. The impact on run D alone would be huge.

Re: The 3-4 defense

The 3-4 is overpowered in Madden, I don't think it needs any love.

Re: The 3-4 defense

It won't necessarily make it better, just more realistic. Plus, NT play makes an impact in the 4-3 too, providing you have the DT to do it - Rogers when he was a Lion, Haynesworth, Henderson etc.

Bummer, I was hoping to plug up the run with Kris Jenkins this year.

Re: The 3-4 defense

The one thing that bugs me about the 3-4 Defense in Madden besides the OL/DL interaction is the fact that when you cycle through players to select who you want to play as before the snap that it always skips the mack LB and cycles through the entire D and you can't be the mack LB until after you've cycled past the RCB. If they could just fix that this year I'd be happy.
