Problem with PrePlay Menu - Defense

Question. Madden 09 CE in Franchise mode. Preplay menu on defense - XBox360. In order to enter the coverage "Y" area or the audible "X" area of the preplay menu, it requires me to hit the Y or X button twice. Once will not get me to the next menu where you select the coverage or audible play. The other preplay buttons work on the first select - Lineman, Linebacker, Playmaker, etc. Just these two require me to hit the respective button twice. In my Madden 08, I verified that I only had to hit the button once.

Anyone else seen this? Using My Skill, Intermediate(Advanced) calling with 1 rewind. Not a major issue, more a curiosity why it is behaving this way. Controller does have brand new batteries, thought it might be that so I changed them.
