This may sound ridiculously petty but...are squib kicks in the PS2 version of Madden '09? Not a huge deal in the grand scheme of things, but it's just indicative of how much the next-gen versions have been stripped down.

yes they are and whats better is that the cpu actually uses them too. If only the NG versions would keep their looks, but take on the LG gameplay, we'd all be happier people. Except maybe those who don't have a NG system yet.

I've often thought the same thing DonRSD...as an older gamer myself.

I grew up with the very earliest of video football games. And even as primitive as they were, they were a blast to play. In my opinion, the gaming industry has made enormous strides with the graphies...but where we now sit with the overall gameplay, is disappointing, and feature wise I might add. [Madden NG]

Many times I do selfishly think...to hell with those who don't care about a correct and challenging football gaming experience. And screw the cheeseballers. If they get a kick outta cheesing the cpu...or each other fine, but leave the rest of us alone. Again selfishly...high sales figures shouldn't be a reason/excuse for adjusting Madden for the "Cheesy ones". Or ignoring basic football mistakes, simply left in the final product.

I can only go by hearsay...but it's kind of sad many gamers feel that Madden is now the "Flagship" sports game by sales only...not by content. I'm hoping the right people are now in place to convince the suits at EA/TIB that Madden deserves better.

Frankly, there are times I wondered if EA shouldn't have adopted 2k's approach to next-gen transition - just take the current gen game and make it pretty.

We'd all be better off if they did.

Not a bad suggestion. I was fine with how the game played on PS2. If they had kept all the standard gameplay features and just gave it a facelift, I would have been thrilled.

Hindsight being what it is....EA's decision, for many was a blunder.

At first I welcomed the idea of going back to square one with the game. I felt the game had become kind of stale, and could use a total rework. Not understanding that four years later, we'd still be wanting for all the features that were lost. Myself...I never imagined it would take five years into this to see the possibility of franchise mode, to get the "love".

I agree with CB....we'd be better off if they had just built up from what we had. In short, the cost has been too high...and the overall benefits too few.

I disagree with EA taking 2k's approach in staying with the same engine moving to this current generation of consoles. To me, EA didn't have a choice and they have even come out with statements saying things that they couldn't do on the old engine. 2k's engine was flexible enough to do the things that we "expect" as standards now this gen, on last gen. EA has admitted they couldn't do those things, so to me staying with the same engine would have done more damage than good. I'd rather them take the hit up front and hopefully, just hopefully move on to do things that even 2k didn't do, but that's taking alot longer than I thought it would, IF it will ever happen.
