Good one. You should still have the ability to throw the ball once you cross the LOS. But if you do, the flag comes out. I can't imagine that it would be too hard to program this into the game.

How about the rule that makes it illegal to be the first guy to touch the ball after you run out of bounds?

I agree. It's far more cost-effective to make one fully-customizable game. If someone wants an arcade experience, let them turn off all penalties, for example.

And let's not forget the infamous block in the back. It worries me that Ian has said that it would be a lot of work to implement illegal touching - which is a shame because it should have been there in the first place.

I'm no programmer, but I wonder what makes it so hard to do this? Does the game interpret the play as being over once someone steps out of bounds?

I don't have a quote, but it was along the lines that the receivers and DBs aren't "aware" of the out of bounds lines and therefore do not try to avoid them. It would involve a rewrite of the route running logic, or something to that effect.

Is that why receivers run full speed out of bounds instead of trying to drag their feet? Because it sure seems to me that Madden players need to be much more aware of the boundaries. If that requires them to rewrite the code to fix it then they need to do the work to get it done. Instead of putting out a half-baked product.

Believe it or not, that rule is in 2k5.

That's laughable and is not an acceptable excuse. I'll laugh hard if that's true. How pathetic would that be if its actually the truth? If cpu players aren't aware of the sidelines then shouldn't they be made aware?

The route running logic would have to be rewritten? Really?

Then rewrite it! What the...

Like the route running logic is so great in the first place.

I'm jumping the gun here but that kind of response sounds too familiar. Its the kind of response that shouldn't be said or accepted by anybody.
