Whats the difference between all of the different physics engines?

Is there one that is better than the other, or do they all do the same thing? I hear all this talk about Euphorias' physics engine but what is wrong with the one madden is using? Also, could the current Madden engine be utilized so that a tackle is different every single time depending on the impact instead of animations?

Compare this (backbreaker):http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TBNdjQox0W4

Can you see the difference?

Euphoria=the tackles are different, EVERYTIME, and the players movement is much more fluid.

Maddens is very robotic, and theres only about 10 tackling animations

I think the main difference is that with the Euphoria engine the tackles just work themselves out... I think they use rag doll type physics where the game world just knows what should happen to a player if he is hit here... or if he is hit there, with this velocity etc...etc... which means that no tackle will be the same.

The Madden engine I believe is limited in teh sense that they have to actually put all of those animations in... so there is not an infinite number of animations you can have... whatever you motion captured thats what you have to work with....

At least that is how I understand it... someone with more knowledge can correct me if I'm wrong.

Either way, I have to assume that Ian would love a Euphoria engine to build Madden on

I hope Ian comments in this thread. No disrespect to anyone but I think he would know best what Madden's "engine" capabilities are compared to anything else.

10 tackling animations? I would say 7 tops. Or there are a few that are not very different at all. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE it if there was a system in place to make every tackle APPEAR different.

Who knows?

the ultimate game would be balancing the two together in order to have the pros of both - the cons of each.

Games like Skate did a pretty good job mixing physics and animations.

I seriously doubt the Madden engine has that ability.... maybe for PS4 and 720?

Rag Doll physics is the way to go... I don't think there's much debate on that, but once you already started on one path you really can't go back and redo it...that's like making a whole new game from scratch, again.

The best EA can do is branching animations...where Animation A can turn to B or C or D depending on the scenario... so you might see different animation combination, but the animations themselves are always going to be the same.... its pretty limited I'd say, but not a deal breaker by any means, just not as cool
