Eh. MLB '09 the show is one of the best sports games ever, but straight out, the commentary in MLB 2K9 beat it. MLB 2K9 was a horrible game, but the commentary from everybody in the game is so spot on and was really impressive.

The Show is good too, but it's much more robotic.

This ^^

Baseball is easier to replicate momentum and the drama of the moment, and games have generally done it very well because there are set moments in the game where the game will be over, or an out will be recorded, etc. Baseball games always end on set plays, either an out recorded or a run scored, and they follow a very algorithmic flow that is easier to replicate commentary along.

Re: Perfect Commentary in a Sports Game

It's not the commentators, it's the commentary & the way EA implements it. . .how you know is ; listen to Suzy Kolber in NFL 2K5. . .then check out her robotic commentary in Madden 10. . .

^^^ That's actually Alex Flanigan in Madden 10, but your point is still true.

Re: Perfect Commentary in a Sports Game

I don't understand why they have Tom Hammond doing an exact play by play. NFL announcers will rarely do an exact play by play. They may mention that it's 1st and 10 or whatever, but they mostly talk about the players, coaches and the meat and potatoes of what's happening on the field. The commentary in Madden needs addressed.

That will never make video games.

Usually in commentary there will be one sort of focus or story for the night.

It may be a rival game talking about the rivals and clashes over the year. It may be about a rookie starting his first match, even just talking about a player in general and how they've improved this season or not performing well this season.

You just can't capture that in a video game.

Fifa is my absolute favorite. They've pretty had the same commentary for years, and people rarely complain about it. That's just shows you how they hit it out of the park on the first try.

Fifas commentary is amazing, I love it. Along with Mlb 2k9 which I only rented to hear the commentary (own the show and it's just lightyears ahead of 2k9).
Madden just needs more energy when it comes to commentary, and maybe have more voices then just the guys they got to switch it up a bit.
