I usually get the game set up my rosters and jump in and play preseason at 5 min quarters. by then I am ready for the season.

as soon as I get the game I start up a franchise. I use the pre-season to get the hang of the game.

I start one when I get the game, play around a little bit, and then ditch it to start a real franchise with the first roster update of the regular season.

Sorry, misunderstood the question....

I will probably wait until closer to the season so that my rosters are accurate to week 1.

As soon as I get the game. Usually I play a quick "Play Now" game just to get the controls down. Then I start my Franchise.

When I bought Madden 2000 for PC and first discovered Franchise Mode, I thought it was the absolute coolest thing ever invented in the history of video games. I didn't play Madden last year and 08's franchise disappointed me, but I haven't been this excited about franchise (or Madden period) since 2005. I'll probably play a few minutes in play now and then quickly resume the never-ending quest to make my Bengals better than they ever will be in real life.

I tend to play a little bit of a pre-season game to see what my team is like. Once I get through a game or two in pre-season I tend to start up regular season and play through the season. Hopefully, Franchise Mode will keep me interested past 'year 1' this year.
