Why is it that when I call cover 2 the middle of field is left wide open? I need some defensive tips.

Because Cover 2 leaves the deep middle open. It's a known flaw of that defense. Depends on where your middle linebacker gets to.

Vary your calls.

dont run cover 2, instead run the tampa 2, or control the middle LB and cover the middle seam yourself.
