Are you kidding me? Sure, there's some annoying bugs, this being one of them, but this is no where near as big of an issue as some of the crap in last year's game. At least now they seem to have fixed progression. This game appears to be far improved over last year's.

Jeeze, why does it bother you that they want this feature? It's their money, if they want to boycott the game because of this small detail, it's their business.

Obviously I don't know for sure, but to me the more likely scenario is that they took it out because it would be an easy cover up for the editing bug. By saying that it was a mistake, or that he forgot about it, it then buys them time to fix it (like it should of been in the first place) and we'll see a fix a month or two down the road.

Once again, just speculation on my part and I might be looking too much into this.

Its all good. I usually dont play Madden year round anyways. After NBA Live comes out i usually end up playing it the most since all my friends get Live as well and my gf actually likes Live and we tend to play it together.
