Progression question

This has probably been asked already but I was just wondering if the stats you have accumulated have any bearing on how well a player will progress for next season or is all progression for players pre-determined and stats don't matter much?

Stats are the single most important thing that determines progression.

well i guess this makes the case for fixing the tackle stats, pancake blocks, and sacks for OLB's.
