You also get penalized if you trade them, but the penalties are bugged in this game. I've released players with 30 mil+ left in their bonus and it didn't hurt my cap at all.

Re: Managing The Salary Cap In Franchise Mode

I'm in year 7 (simulating) and have over $100,000,000 in cap space. Once you find a draft steal (3-7th round) and you lock him up long term for no money at all that eliminates a huge amount of cash. I've got a stacked team with 90's at every position but its costing me nothing. My RBs are drafted so i pay each of them less than a million a year, same with 2-5 WRs, TEs, C, DEs, LOLB, 2-4 CB, SS, K and finally P. Also most of the backups are drafted so i pay them next to nothing. So i pay the true money to QB, FB, 1 WR, LT, LG, RG, RT, DT ROLB, MLB, 1 CB and FS.

Yea and this is especially easy if you use some of the spreadsheets floating around that show all the rookies with "A" and "B" potential you can draft in later rounds.

- Don’t be afraid to sign high rated players that will retire in a year or two to long term contracts. If 35 year old Ray Lewis (91 OVR) and you really want him, feel free to sign him to a 7 year deal because the first couple years will be the least expensive. Before he becomes really expensive he will retire.
You better not give him a large signing bonus though.

As the off-season begins I have about $70 million to resign players, sign free agents, and sign draft picks.
After resigning these players to one year deals could you just trade them for picks or other players and not get a cap penaltiy?

Re: Managing The Salary Cap In Franchise Mode

Does a player's remaining bonus leave a cap penalty for the next year if he retires?
