Separating The Game and Man

Just watching the little clip on SNF about John and his retirement. It made me come to the realization, I shouldn't hold disdain for him, but I do.

In fact I met him years ago and he seemed very genuine to his television persona. Yes he stumbles over sentences, but his "common man" approach to football was something I always respected even though I found it repetitive and annoying.

Somewhere between 05 and now, I started to judge my opinion of John Madden with my opinion of the game with his namesake. For whatever reason, just thought I would share this and wonder if anybody felt the same way.

It's not just the pathetic game from 06 to 09 on next gen that shapes my opinion of him, it's also the irrational and bizarre love affair he has with Bert Fever that rubs me the wrong way.

Nope. Just like ANY product with a famous athlete's name on it, if it's junk, doesn't change my opinions about them.

Madden used to actually sit with devs and guide them thru on making the games "back in the day". Lately, seems EA just stamps his name on the cover. I don't even think John knows what his game has become lately. He's too busy counting the $$$$$.

*edit* I actually like M10, I was referring more to 06,07,08,and 09...

No. I doubt he has any real involvement with the decisions/development of the game.

Then maybe he should, instead of sitting around and counting his millions and polishing his 8 by 10 glossy of Bert Fever.

Sorta like Rich Eisen and Ochocinco.

That love affair actually makes me wonder why the other guys on NFL Network don't all get up and beat Eisen to a pulp.

That said, I'm a huge Eisen fan.
