Delay Routes Not Working?

There are several plays that have a back or tight end start to block, then go out to the flats. IIRC these are called delay routes. Now the AI runs these plays to perfection, but I've never had it work for me. The last time I tried, I ran the Goal line Fade play. The tight end didn't stop blocking until I was sacked.

Anyone else run into this problem, or have any tips?

Re: Delay Routes Not Working?

sometimes the guy just can't get out of his block. when the TE takes on a stud DE, a lot of time he gets overpowered and can't release. i've had it happen to me several times. delay routes do work though. i use them all the time. take a look in single-back sets. there's a set with two wrs to the left side and two tight ends. that set has several pa plays were the qb will roll out, the te will pick up a blitzer, and just as the qb turns back from the play fake, the te releases. i use the 'run n gun' playbook (at least i think that's what it's called).

the goal line play is just hard to get off anyway. there's always too much pressure and not enough time for the delay to really be affective.
