I think what they did with the old system is even though they were in a position battle if a players overall rating is a certain number more than the other they will automatically get the starting position.

Definitely bring the position battles back, maybe that will stop me from simming the preseason games because as they stand they are worthless.

What did these ever do?

Did it ever matter who won the battle? Was there ever any ripples in the team if the starter was the backup out of the preseason? Was there ever impact to naming the "loser" of the battle as the starter (for example, if a top player just had a bad preseason and you went with him anyway, say Chris Johnson over whoever the backup is, would the backup get pissed if you went with CJ even though the backup had an amazing preseason run)?
