Re: May I ask a Favor of Someone with Madden 10?

Thanks, Megatron, that's exactly what we're looking for. I've got a quicker way at the same data, so I was putting together something similar to Madden 11. I thought it would be nice to compare the weightings from M10 since I'm pretty sure that these change from year to year. It's hard to get at this without being able to play with the sliders though (i.e. pre-launch of M11). This should give me what I need though.

Now I wonder how we can use this to calculate the weight for each attribute like these guys did:

http://www.operationsports.com/forum...culations.html

That is what I am ultimately trying to get to. We can also use the new spreadsheets for Madden 11 ratings. Ideas?

Re: May I ask a Favor of Someone with Madden 10?

Argoos analysis was good, but it left out weighting with respect to where a player lines up on the field (e.g. ROLB vs. LOLB). I went back and compared his weights with the weights that I calculated via linear fitting of the M11 data (spreadsheets from EA) and they look pretty close to each other for the first few positions that I've looked at.

Without having the game (M11 that is) in hand, I still can't exactly calculate the player's overall rating since there's not enough granularity between certain attributes at a given position (e.g. run blocking only varies 22 pts. between the highest RBK rated RT and the lowest, so my model doesn't pick it up as a factor even though it must be).

Anyway, the spreadsheet that I'm putting together will allow you to calculate a player's OVR change moving from one position to another when it's done. Also useful for 'create-a-player' balancing as pointed out previously.

I just need to work out the kinks for the following positions which are only calculating to within ± 1 OVR of the actual rating:

QB, WR, C, LG, RG, DT, RE, ROLB

You can change the values from Argoos' thread to weights by dividing the values in the right column by 49 (i.e. weight or slope = change in attribute ÷ change in OVR).

Sounds really good Hittin'. The thread that was provided may not be entirely accurate because I could have sworn that RBK still affected the OVR of a WR and CTH could still affect the OVR of a MLB, etc...

This tells me that the attributes that are affected (and given to us by Argooos) may not be complete correct. How is that spreadsheet coming? How similar are the Madden 11 ratings to those of Madden 10 as far as calculations looking thus far?

Makes sense to me now. Are we certain that he (Argooos) did not leave any attribute weighting out? Such as STR/ACC for QBs, CTH for MLBs, etc? If you have Madden 10 can you check? It may account for some of the missing rounding issues with the other positions that are off. Is there really a difference between the weighting of an LOLB vs. a ROLB? I thought they were the same. If this is the case, you may want to pool them together when doing your analysis.
