Do cut players dissapear?

Question I read that if you cut a fake name in the pre season they dissapear. what if you cut a real life player in the pre season do they dissapear too??

If this is the case I might do all the cutting on the default rosters now so that the REAL players sit in the free agents pool, then start the franchise up cut all the fake players and then they dissapear however, I bet the free agent list gets full after about 3 teams doing this

I am trying to find the best way to do this right now when teams are cutting down to 53 ughh so frustrating
