??? This sentence makes zero sense. If you don't have any competition and consumers are buying your product then you already won.

Just like corporations buy our government officials, EA will likely attempt to do the same with the NFL/NFLPA.

You sound like a consumer speaking from a consumer perspective instead of evaluating it from a business perspective. Madden losing market share is EA's biggest fear. This is the flagship product for the company and they will do whatever it takes to continue dominating the NFL market.

I think ownership and management at EA care more about the huge revenues from Madden than the vocal minority who complain on video game forums online. Tiburon cares about the backlash that the game receives on forums such as OS, but ultimately they don't own John Madden Football. This is about money.

And thats why madden will never move forward....As long as they have the license...Its a lost cause overall. Eithe the NFL gets wise and doesnt renew or we are stuck with what we have. AND I HATE THAT IDEA!

Well i think it makes perfect sense because EA didn't have to spend $500 million dollars on the license for NHL to beat their competition. Madden beat all it's competition, with ease, in the sales dept. Madden football crushed 2K football in sales. Wonder how EA themselves are doing right now, business wise, overall as opposed to where they were in say 2003-2004 when they spent that pretty significant amount of money to buy out competition they were already beating in the sales dept.? Wonder if in their hind sight, they would like to have that money back and just have kept beating 2K football, and any other competitor in sales, like were doing all along anyway.

Let's face it man, Madden has ALWAYS been successful as a franchise and generating sales and profit for EA. Madden has always been that "800 LB. Gorilla". That's what's crazy about the whole thing behind the license, it seems like a bad business move to spend that kind of money to buy out competition when you were always crushing them year in and year out anyway.

Re: What does the NBA Elite 11 postponement mean for Madden?

nothing elite has stiff competition in the form of nba 2k11

madden has no competition, none whatsoever so they can make whatever product they want....

madden 11 despite the reviews on os i think is a good game once you get your slider set down

but it needs to expand on franchise and superstar mode immediatly

Re: What does the NBA Elite 11 postponement mean for Madden?

Lots and lots of blame can be passed around for the exclusive rights debacle... so let's not totally throw EA under the bus.

The NFL had been doing exclusive rights deals for years and years... they like them... they want them for everything they can possibly apply them too. Companies pay big premiums to be the "exclusive [insert service here] provider of the NFL!" or the "official imported light pilsner beer of the NFL!". The NFL knows this and I have to believe that they were the masterminds of our current situation... with EA merely accessories to the crime.

Heck, you can blame Take Two as well... I'm sure nobody in the NFL beancounting offices were the least bit happy when the 2K series started a price war. Pulling that $19.95 stunt for 2k5 was probably the nail that sealed the "exclusive rights" coffin.

Unless the courts somehow intervene, there is an approximately 0.000% chance that NFL video gaming ever has competition again. Well, I suppose there is the 0.002% chance that consumers revolt against the monopoly to such a degree that the exclusive licensing fees become not worth the premium... but I don't see that happening.

We're stuck. It is what it is. I would be more than a little shocked if Madden sees anything approaching a ground up overhaul during the 360/PS3 life cycles. This is NFL gaming for the current gen.

I feel what happen to live is what the madden team fears so for this not to happen to buy out who you going against. You remember when Live had the basketball game on lock no one was touch them. We all though no other company will knock them off number 1 and guess what it happen. The same way we feel about Live back then is how we feel about madden now but by EA having the rights we don't give the other company a chance to knock them off number 1 status. NFL2k was getting close in some eyes it was better but they shut them down before they gave them a chance like NBA2k got there chance to build

Agree.. so true. EA and the Madden team's biggest fear would be losing the Exclusive rights to the nfl. They know without it, they would be in big trouble. They know they couldn't compete against other talented developers such as 2k. It's not to bash EA, but it is what it is.. Without the Exclusive rights, Madden = NBA LIVE, and NFL 2k = #1 Football game.
