There's a warning about it when you cut them, the trade screen doesn't show it however.
It only half shows it. I think it might show the penalty on the offer screen but not when you actually open up the offer. I think it only shows your new cap. They need to put the penalty in parenthesis on that screen or something. I'm not for sure it even shows the full penalty on the offer screen I'll check.

I didn't even know about trades and the cap penalty personally until I did franchise in M11. I always thought it was just the team owed them a portion of their salary for the season they cut them. It should probably say what it is you're actually adding to the penalty. It should probably this players X$$ signing bonus will count against your salary cap next season. Like I said I thought it was either a portion of their salary or what was listed as cap salary that was actually counting against until that M11 franchise.

To earlier point on players wanting more than they say, most of the time they end up singing for what's listed as their contract when you pull them up in non-franchise mode. Why don't they just put that down as their desired contract when you sign them during the main season? Also, players never resign for less or a change in the bonus/overall ratio like they do in real life. Players don't ask for less after digressing, being cut, or stats going down.

What about resigning players you already have whose contract is not up? When I go to the screen to submit an offer it shows my cap space as if I'm paying both contracts. Am I still paying the old singing bonus plus the new contract?

It warns you when you realease a player but not when you trade.

And yes, if you extend someones contract your paying current bonus + whatever the new constract is. A great way to free up cap room is to resign players with huge bonus's to 1 year deals and let them steal 20 mil (or whatever insane number it ends up being) so you can not only avoid the cap hit but avoid ever paying them again.

Is there anyway to see the total of salary cap penalties during the season that you will see at the end of the season. I started a franchise with the bengals and traded away Palmer, Ocho, and TO.. basically blowing it up and starting over, but I am curious how much I will get hit by that now after reading this post

It's funny how guys digress but never accept less money or they expect to be paid more than other players at he same position with the same overall or key ratings. Not to mention they expect more than a player of that position in the NFL. Not every position should be expecting the same pay for an 80 overall ranking. I'm not going to pay my backup left guard the same as my QB. And as for extending contracts, what about the option to simply restructure a contract. I thought when they did that in the NFL even bonuses were in play.

Yeah they should give you a way to do that. But what I do sometimes if I'm sure the moves I made are the ones I wanted to make, I'll go ahead and save my Franchise and Sim ahead to the offseason.
