The "sub" button you are referring to is formation subs. The R stick is the packages. The most horrible thing about Madden concerning this feature is that formation subs over rule everything else including packages. For example if you use formation subs to put your HB2 in the slot, then later you hit the R stick in the same formation to go to strong slot to put your WR1 in the slot your HB2 will still be there....in the slot. In fact he will be there forever... Untill you change it. And remember the ONLY WAY to do formation subs is IN GAME, IN PLAY CALL SCREEN! Ridiculous. This feature was half a$$ed. And further more we USED to have the ability to use formation subs on special teams. Even more and more with parody becomming the norm in the NFL, special teams have become more and more important. I'm not sure about EVERY team in the NFL but I know most teams are looking for that special teams ace... Your special teams captain. And I don't just mean returners, I mean gunners and coverage guys. I understand these special teams guys are usually your back-ups and thats who is there automatically there but I don't have the option to customize my PACKAGE. And what about pre-season? We have expanded rosters in the pre-season yet we can't customize who's covering kick-offs? Seems silly.
I posted this in another thread that just popped up about packages/formation subs/personel/match-ups. This feature needs to come back for special teams and really the whole system needs to be re-vamped. I obviously haven't played Madden 12 yet but I am currently impressed with some of the features they have fixed and added. It sounds great so far. I appreciate the devs doing what they can to give the community what they want. I believe THIS needs to be the next thing they add or bring back. If not Madden 12 the Madden 13.
