Players who can play offense and defense

I was watching the pats eagles game and i saw Julian Edelman on defense and he got a sack.

Are there any players who are good at Offense and Defense in Madden 12?

Re: Players who can play offense and defense

In Madden, no. I'm pretty sure Edelman has 25 in all of his defensive stats, but I'm not positive. In real life the Patriots have done it a bunch of times, though.

Julian Edelman- WR, Safety
Matthew Slater- WR, Safety
Troy Brown- WR, Safety
Ray Ventrone- Safety, WR
Mike Vrable- Linebacker, Tight End (goal-line situations)
Randy Moss- Wide Receiver, Defensive Back (hail mary situations)
Richard Seymour- Defensive End, Fullback (goal-line situations)

There are probably more. Another cool thing about Edelman is that he was a QB in college, so the Patriots turned a college QB into a PR/KR/WR/DB utility player... he has done surprisingly well on defense.

Wasn't Hester a corner coming out of college?
EDIT: Just looked it up and he was, so he must be decent on D. Also in one game a few years ago Champ played corner and receiver.

I don't normally put someone on defense who plays on offense or vice versa, but when I run into someone who has a Hester/CJ2K speed I may put someone like Desean Jackson at safety and user control him and make sure I don't get beat.

Re: Players who can play offense and defense

Football is football... Most of the skills needed for one positions are relevant to other positions. Many NFL players are not playing the positions they played in high school or college when they get to the league.

I remember the days when you could sub any player into any position in Madden. I miss those days, but too many people who don't actually watch football or know the rules had a problem with NFL legal substitutions so now we can't make NFL legal substitutions nor manage our rosters in the ways a real coach might...

Re: Players who can play offense and defense

A lot of players have skills for both sides of the ball. A lot of defensive backs have catching in the 80s which is as good as a lot of wide receivers. Also, quite a few linebackers and linemen have pretty good blocking. You could have a few players play both ways, but there are two reasons why you shouldn't. First, Madden will give that player a pretty big Awareness hit and negate most of the usefulness of that particular skill. Secondly, do you really want to go through the hassle of subbing an offensive player on defense or vice versa? It's a real pain.

I never really saw the point in putting a DT or Linebacker in at running back or putting a WR at CB. It's so gimmicky. Unless you're really depleted because of injuries or that particular player is better than any other player at that position (which is rare), it doesn't make sense. Unless you have a player who isn't really great at one thing, but good at a bunch of things, then it makes sense. You're trying to utilize that player's abilities to the utmost. I hate seeing defensive linemen on goalline situations. I just don't see the point. If you want someone really big, just put an O-linemen in there.
