Two words - Clock Management

Patriots (me) down 20-14 to the Chargers (CPU) at the two minute warning. 3rd down and 10 to go at the 14 yard line. Brady passes to Hernandez across the middle, incomplete. With all the time outs remaining Belichek decides to go for it.

Brady can still get a first down with plenty of clock to score. Ball is snapped, perfect protection while Branch runs a deep in route. Double covered, Branch is able to slip the short defender and Brady leads the ball a little too far. Branch turns on the after burners and attempts a one hand grab. He falls to the ground while the refs discuss among them. TOUCHDOWN! Gost kicks the PAT and Patriots are up by one.

Everyone in the stands and sideline is overjoyed with excitement. One problem though. There is still 1:46 remaining on the clock with Rivers getting a long field after the kickoff.

First play Rivers test the right side of the field with McCourty injured in the 2nd quarter. Throws it long to Jackson in double coverage, incomplete. With Rivers now knowing he has to march up the field he starts targeting medium balls down the sideline. After two completions to Gates, Rivers is at the Patriots 48 yard line with :46 left.

Getting a little antsy Rivers tries the right side of the field again. Lofts the ball 20 yards downfield to Jackson again. Arrington goes to fight for the ball with Jackson with Chung having his eyes on slamming Vincent. Ball is tipped by Arrington and Chung lays out Jackson.

Clean hit, no flags...but Jackson isn't getting up. Clutching his chest and rolling around San Diego's staff runs on to the field and help him off. It's just a simple wind being knocked out of him but he has to now sit out the next down.

Forty seconds now and Rivers calls the play. With Crayton taking Jackson's place you would think the next play is called for Floyd. Rivers steps back and with the same exact play as the down before he passes to Crayton. He leaps up over the defender and comes down with the ball on the Patriots 23 yard line. Clock was moving so the Pats need to call a timeout, but for some reason the Chargers called it instead.

29 seconds with 1st down, you know the Chargers are going to run the clock down and get the ball into the middle of the field. They hand off to Matthews for a few, timeout Pats. They run again and get stopped for a 3 yard loss but a flag is on the field. Holding, Pats don't need to burn a timeout now. After another play it's time for the field goal attempt. It's more of a chip shot for Kaeding and he splits the uprights.

Now 11 seconds to go. Chargers squib right to Stephen Ridley. Ridley moves the ball up to the 38 yard line with 7 seconds. Now since the penalty the Patriots are left with one timeout. Four wideouts, you would expect a streak for just about all four. Not Wes Welker. Realizing the middle of the field was open he darts across. Brady sees him and hits him on a 21 yard bullet. Welker goes down and is able to call timeout with 1 second left.

58 yard field goal kicking with the wind behind you pushing left to right. Chargers ice Gostowski with their last timeout. Gost lines up and is ready. Snap...ball down...laces out...he puts his whole leg into it. He sees it pulls left. Big gust of wind picks up, and starts pushing it right. Does he have the distance?! The ball falls behind the crossbar and sneaks in the corner. It's good...patriots win!
