What's the best way to improve defensively for online play?

Besides the obvious "Play against good offenses."

I'm not sure playing the CPU in practice mode would help too much, since users likely have a tendency to approach the game far differently than the CPU would.

Get some friends or family over and play a few games that away...I'd also play Non-Rank games that's a great way to play people online and learn how most will play the game...Really just work on stopping the pass only like 10% of people that play online run the ball more than 5 times...Are you getting Madden 13? If so for what 360 or Ps3? I would love to help ya out I only give up 10-14 points online in my ranked games.

I don't know, I'd say more like 45% run the ball. I always end up playing against these people that get pass rush very quickly with their D-line, their man coverage is superb, yet when I try to do the same it fails. They run the ball over me, and my d-line always runs in the opposite direction even if I set crash right and the RB is running right, they'll go left.

Once you stop them from running on the first few downs and then put up 14 on em real quick it becomes a passing game with the guys I've played...I have faced I say 10-15 people that didn't even run the ball ones even after I picked them off 4-5 times they still just passed the ball...I wish I played more people who ran to make it seem more life like.

No I buy all my sport games for Xbox 360...I did get Madden 12 on ps3 but took it and traded it in for the 360 version because it just looked better (To me) so I will also be getting Madden 13 on Xbox 360.

i dont thinks we are playing the same madden. 80 percent of the people i play run the ball on almost every down. i have to force all all the people i play to pass the ball by bringing nine guys into the box.
