You need agressive corners. Being 1 dementional isn't always a great fit as a corner. You need to tackle too. You need a player that can play more than one position other than controling one side of the field. Especially if you're playing in a 3-4 defense. Skinny 5-10 5-11 185 pound corners won't do in the NFL. You need to look for stronger, press covering, tackling corners. More of a CB/S mold if you will. That's what I'd do personally if I were a GM.

Re: How would you improve/create your secondary?

Assuming your talking about rebuilding in FA. I rarely draft defensive players in the first 2-3 rounds of the draft. I usually go for OL, WR, or occasionally a LB or Safety. But rare. Then in later rounds, I mainly draft to fill out my depth chart, not really intending to draft potential starters.

Cornerbacks: I try to find players under 26 years of age and 6'3" or taller. I tend to sort out to the top 3-5 in speed and man coverage. Then I pick the best ones depending how many I need with the highest jump rating.

Free Safety: Basically the same as Cornerback but I get the ones with better pursuit than jump. Also look for zone instead of man.

Strong Safety: I try to get the John Lynch type player. Hard hitting, great pursuit, and still fast enough to cover in zone. I like to run SS Blitz a lot and my Strong Safety gets about as many tackles as my lead LB.

OLB: It's all about speed, pursuit, and zone coverage. I lead the hard hitting Ray Lewis type player to my MLB and DE.

Re: How would you improve/create your secondary?

It's a passing league, so I'd implement nickel more often, pulling a LB off the field in place on an extra CB.

I'd run (if the game allowed) press on the weak side to disrupt timing and hide a WL blitz. Also, I'd add size to both CB's to help reduce cheap jump ball receptions and add a few INT's.

Finally, I'd disguise my strong side man coverage by with some cover 1 stuff on the strong side only.

^ This made me wonder... Does anybody know if we can create our own plays/formations this year?

I liked mixing things up by creating my own defensive formations in past versions of Madden that had this feature.
