Connected Careers playing differently than Play Now

Has anyone started a career and felt this way?

I play both modes on the exact settings and roster but I feel like on the Connected Careers mode, something is different. I'm giving up enormous plays downfield and my offensive line seems to have forgotten how to block. I also noticed that teams are rated a bit lower. In my case, I'm Dallas playing the Giants and both teams are rated 5 point lower than when I start a Play Now game.
