Contract Negotiations

I searched around but couldn't find an answer to this in the forums, sorry if it was answered somewhere. In the game, how much of an emphasis will a player put on salary vs bonus? I just got the game and started a career and have a player asking to renegotiate an extension, and I'm wondering what sort of breakdown I should use.

Does anyone have any experience or recommendations they can pass on?

Re: Contract Negotiations

By no means exact, but its been my experience that it varies by player.

Whatever you do, don't low ball your studs, or really anyone for that matter, as the player will inform you that your contract offer was ridiculous and he will be testing Free Agency....(ie, your gonna lose him)

Re: Contract Negotiations

If their interest is low its best to give them exactly what they want, however ive had players turn me down when I gave them the years and salary they wanted. They just continue negotiations however, they dont end them. So start at what they want and them bump up bonus and feather the salary until you get them.

Medium and high interest you can go a little low. If they want 8 million and you offer 7 they typically will keep negotiating and wont just end talks.

Its fun to lowball guys you dont want however.

Re: Contract Negotiations

Depends on their interest.

If a players interest is high and he's asking for 4million a year, you could go 3.5 and he'd accept.

Re: Contract Negotiations

Thanks for the advice, that is helpful to know, what I was really looking for though is is there any difference to the player between assigning them the amount they want via salary or bonus?

I know how salary and bonus affects the cap, but I'm wondering how it affects player interest, if at all. If a player wants 5 years, 30 million, does he care if he gets it all in base salary or will he want some amount in bonus? If i give him slightly less with a higher bonus will he still be happy because he is getting more guaranteed money or do they not care?
