So, I win the SB for the second time in 5 seasons with my Chargers, generating 30,000 or so XP's for my HC. Recognizing Philip Rivers is approaching possible retirement age, I invested 20,000 of those XP's in the QB Retirement perk to keep him around a bit.

I advance the week to the next off-season step and... it tells me he's retired anyway!!!

What a waste of 20,000 XP's. Nice programming work EA, the perk should buy you AT LEAST one season out of the guy at that price.

You should have instead put that XP into something else like QB xp boosts and then drafted a replacement

Point is EA implemented the very expensive perk poorly, it did NOTHING.

As someone else said I kinda like the uncertainty.There should not be "cheat code" type things in a sports game.

More likely though is that it did not affect Rivers because you were already in the offseason. The way it works is that as soon as you advance to the offseason the list of players set to retire is created. Your perk will apply next season.

It's says right in the explanation that it LOWERS the chance of a player retiring, don't see the validity of your argument.

My problem is that the XP makes it as if you're basically convincing him/bribing him with money to not retire, or with xp.
