I must admit that I see quite the difference as well in my KC franchise. Especially after having been developing them for 1½ seasons, and getting their blocking and awareness up. Anyway, you should in general never assume to have much more than 3 seconds to pass - when you get used to that, sacks will happen less, and mostly on blitzes when not in shotgun. If you are in a long yardage situation, best thing is to be aware of where the pressure is coming from and move around based on it (so if you see LE/LOLB getting past your RT, move a bit left to get that extra second for your receiver to get open)
