Not sure what you are trying to point out here. This just means that there are many more with a "bone to pick" with EA than any other US company. Not sure how this would make the poll anything but accurate.

This is irrelevant. The point of the article is Peter Moore's pathetic attitude and ridiculous response to the poll. He could have equally brushed it off, not responded--or as the writer alluded, simply responded with "we'll try to do better" and left it at that.

However, his response beyond that is indicative of the type of culture he fosters such that consumers want to vote for EA in that poll to begin with.

Ultimately, his words are as meaningless as the poll, given that he's gone well beyond a parody of himself. This guy's in some arrogant la-la land, full of himself in some alternate reality. Eventually he'll reap what he sows. People like him always do.

My point is that the poll is misrepresentative of the average American consumer on account of sampling bias.

The video gamer demographic is known for being more likely to participate in any internet-bound activity by virtue of having the technology to play games which can also access the internet. The gamer demographic is also known for being incredibly vocal with their opinion, and they will let people know when they aren't happy with something. They are thus incredibly more likely to participate in a voluntary internet poll than an average American consumer. Finally, gamers tend to have herd mentality. If one particular public opinion is favorable, it gets adopted en masse by the entire participating population.

If the poll wanted to make an attempt at any sort of accurate portrayal of public opinion, there'd be some effort to generate a random sample representative of the entire pool of American consumers, similar to what is done in political polls to scientifically assess public opinion of certain candidates or issues. Instead, what's been implemented is essentially a reverse popularity contest and makes no attempt at being an objective population study.

The polling data is skewed by virtue of the process by which the data was obtained, and it is fundamentally irresponsible to draw any conclusions from whatever results the polling firm has gathered.

I feel like the situation surrounding SimCity, Origin, the company's position on DRM, the company's insistence on microtransactions, the company's historic strategy of buying smaller studios and subsequent homogenization of said studio's hardcore titles have far more to do with this than anything related to EA Sports, and that this poll is by no means representative of anything whatsoever.

I would tend to agree that this has nothing to do with EA's pro-LGBT rights stance. Unfortunately, OS isn't the place to have any conversation about anything political so comments to that end ought to tread carefully.
The poll began with 64 companies. One could have picked a bone with any of them but EA is well ahead.

This.

And:

This:

"Here’s our question to Peter Moore: If your entire industry is engaged in the production of something so trivial as to not warrant inclusion in a contest that features a poop trophy, why do you even work in it?"

This doesn't begin to address the concern I put forth about sampling bias.

We don't know if there are people who either - A - voluntarily did not participate in this internet poll, or more importantly - B - did not know about this poll altogether because Consumerist is only the 6,784th-ranked website on the Alexa rankings with web traffic whose population disproportionately skews towards those in the 18-24 and 25-34 age brackets (source; coincidentally, these brackets also tend to be the most likely to engage in playing video games).

Again, with respect to the question of the "worst company in America", no meaningful, fair, and scientifically robust conclusion can be drawn from the poll.

Perhaps, but EA sports' handling of NBA live, and the exclusive NFL situatiion won't exactly win the company any consumer support either.

Gamers may be the most vocal and this poll may not be representative of all of EA's consumers but the fact remains that there is a laundry list of reasons why consumers would want to vote for EA in a poll like this.
