Geez you guys would find something to complain about if EA lost the license. Why does everyone always have to be so negative about EVERYTHING on these forums?

Re: EA Kills Online Pass

Well, that is good news. I'd more willing get ripped off by Gamestop than EA. Though I'd prefer to not get ripped off.

Atleast now I can buy used and EA can get its microtransactions from people that for some reason buy that stuff. Sigh, remember when those boosts were free, or better yet, paid for in in-game currency.

I agree with this, however lets say that there isn't an ulterior motive for this decision such as the new consoles preventing used games from being used. Then it it possible that they decided that gamers were avoiding buying their games due to the online pass and by removing it they may be able make a profit while pleasing their customers.
It's unlikely that this is the case as the online pass mainly impedes consumers who purchase used games (who EA make no money from apart from microtransactions). However it is still a possibility that shouldn't be quickly disregarded.

A move that benefits the customers benefits the firm as well. Its simple public relations. Ultimately anything any firm does is to benefit itself in some way. There is no such thing as an altruistic firm. All those companies that send relief supplies after disasters are not doing it simply out of good will. That good will, which itself may be genuine, is also calculated to ensure good PR. That is why they want you to know they are doing it.

Short version; there is no such thing as altruism.

Yep, and the fact that it includes EA seems to be possibly lost on some.
