I can confirm this. I had this exact scenario back in Madden '10. Fortunately I was just playing through a season testing sliders, so I didn't care that I got boned out of the playoffs.

The tie breakers are irrelevant as a 9-6-1 team isn't tied with a 9-7 team. The 9-6-1 team has a better record, they should win immediately.

There's also a bug regarding the home team in the Super Bowl. In real life it rotates year by year, but it appears in Madden to go to the team with the better record.

Closing this, it's unfortunately a known bug that has been in Madden for years, nothing new though.
