Re: Locomotion- Madden (Next Gen)

I think they just need to change their base locomotion to make it look more realistic. If you're running and let off the stick your player shouldn't come to a complete stop. He should slow his run and then jog until he stops. So many times when you run into the endzone and stop it looks AWFUL. Sometimes I've seen it look pretty realistic. We just need complete consistency with everything in this game. It doesn't have to be perfect. Just consistent.

It is interesting how we all look at these games. If you follow the sport of soccer/futbol more and go to soccer forums, alot of the members there treat the foot-planting/momentum in FIFA like alot of us here do here for Madden. Ice skating, unrealistic quick movements, etc.

PES has been clunky on this current gen, but it always seemed to respect momentum and how the players need to step to move in a direction. Sometimes the footplanting and the animation look were awful, but it still felt more realistic to the sport because of this.

I hope Madden improves, but I just don't trust EA is looking to make a realistic game. Like alot of us have said, hope I am proven incorrect. I so badly want to roll with my Bears in a football game, but the current offering just doesn't cut it.

Yeah I agree. I am always pessimistic with EA and skeptical because of their track record.

And you are right with PES. PES, NBA 2k and MLB the show all have a certain unpredictability to them that EA games do not. They lack a 'realness' to them

Definitely agree. And another thing that really bothers me is little things EA keep in the game that remind us that they are 'arcadey'. Like the endzone dives. They look absolutely ridiculous. Like NFL-BLITZ.

Same goes for NHL. They have this one deke where you flip the puck up in the air and jump over the downed defenseman. I think I've seen it happen once in NHL history... and you can do it anytime in the game... with any player. Once again... Inconsistent with what EA touts as their sim approach to gaming... and what they actually DO

So tired of constantly "liking" post in this thread, lol. I think the key is that representing momentum means a lost of User control which is forbidden by EA Sports. Ergo we are left with these odd twitchy results, that somehow so many give EA a pass on. They're gamers out there that claim they want "sim" and realism yet believe representing momentum as realistic as possible in a video game equates to watching the game play itself.

I just read a post in another thread that I couldn't even respond to without coming off like a Richard but it made me realize that EA Tiburon is catering to a certain niche. The main issue with NFL gaming is there is no longer other studios allowed to offer something different, for those of us who want it.

You know the funniest part about the control thing is, personally I still dont feel more control in EA games as I do in other sports games. So for me it's just a lost cause. I still have players going out of their way to do things I don't want them to do in Madden. Animations are limited so the wrong ones trigger in the wrong situations, I mean I don't get what they feel they are gaining personally. At least it could look pretty if I'm not going to be in control anyway.

I mean they're saying all this stuff about momentum and having more control but I don't see how it's possible. They need to just commit to one side and stop trying to walk this line. At least I know I could give up hope, lol. If you're going to be sim COMMIT. If not stop trying to act like you are. We'll accept it and move on.

Agreed, at least NBA, Fifa, and MLB games get a choice. I hope the NFL allows at least one other dev (cough 2K) to make NFL games next-gen.

Re: Locomotion- Madden (Next Gen)

I mean just look at the way this goalkeeper moves at 13 seconds. He's stiff and hunched over. I mean even if he's stationary, he shouldn't look so robotic. He should be on his toes, he should look like a goalkeeper ready to defend. There's still sliding and a lack of movement. I understand games are going to have sliding but it's just the sliding and the stiffness that kills it.

It looks just like Madden when defenders sit in zones. I can just picture a linebacker sittin in a zone looking and moving just like that in Madden. Until they fix these animations and add more fluid life like subtle movements, it will never totally look the part.

It's the same base that they keep stacking things on top of. Nothing will change unless they blow up the game and start again from scratch.

Don't get sucked in by EA's buzzwords.

This is Madden, take it or leave it.
