Question About CPU Play Calling

Has cpu play calling improved this year or will I still need to adjust the sliders to make up for poor play calling? I still haven't got the game yet and this is the main selling point for me.

Re: Question About CPU Play Calling

It's definitely improved by a lot. No more run-heavy playcalling and teams seem to call like they actually would. I've played about 10-15 games now and haven't had any complaints other than a few late half/game calls but nothing outrageous. I played the Browns earlier and they pounded Richardson like you figure they would and then I played the Broncos and they hardly ran at all and just torched me through the air.

Re: Question About CPU Play Calling

Do they make adjustments during the game? If something isn't working do they stop trying and if you're killing them with a certain play can they adjust to stop it? My biggest issue was being able to call like 4 or 5 offensive plays a game and still score. If they addressed this then that would be awesome.

Basic playcalling is improved a lot. Teams play like you expect them to. Pats throw it while Vikings pound it.

But the CPU doesn't really make good adjustments. If you have 3-4 money plays you can rotate them and beat the CPU with it. Needs improvement.

The bold is somewhat true about real football though.

In the NFL you see a lot of the following Madden plays: Z SPOT, STICK, FLOOD, and LEVELS.

Mix in some MESH and/or SLANTS and you aren't that far off from running a typical NFL offensive passing scheme.

Re: Question About CPU Play Calling

default ea rosters the cpu does a decent job on 1st and 2nd down, 3rd down is where things get really bad and stupid

if its anything over 3rd and 9, the cpu is programmed 90% of the time to call 4 verticals or a screen.

trust me one of those 2 is coming on 3rd and long, if you call man cov its almost a guaranteed pick on the 4 verts. thats too predictable.

if you go into the cpu gameplans you see why the cpu is soooo predictable the game values 4 verts above all other plays in the cpu playbook. its crazy.

sliders cant fix this what sliders do is help the cpu not get into alot of 3rd and longs, so instead of a tackle for loss leading to a 3rd and 12, heisman can help that rb break 3 tackles and make it 3rd and 8. this is why I believe we all see different results when it comes to playcalling.

Re: Question About CPU Play Calling

Thanks for the replies. I never used sliders to fix the poor play calling in the past, but to make the game challenging and give the cpu other advantages to make up for play calling.

Re: Question About CPU Play Calling

Defensive play calling is still subpar at best.

GamePlans could have been a trademark feature of this series, but they took a lazy approach to them for the past 3 years.
