I disagree....I think it can help. Learning when to throw screens for example. The more football you watch the better you get in my opinion.

What it can do is actually make you even more frustrated at the untapped potential of Madden because you will notice somethings where you might think Madden got it wrong but are actually done fairly well, then other things they seem to completely overlook. There is this blatantly obvious focus on keeping Madden "fun" that is even more profound when directly comparing it to real football and real football strategy.

When watching real football, one of the most immersive elements for the vast majority of fans, from casual to seasoned x's and o's gurus, is second guessing and Monday morning QBing. Meaning we are constantly critiquing what happened and why it did or didn't work, ie problem solving. In Madden much of this is thrown right out the window because so much of the processes in the NFL are omitted or skewed, so it's hard to make football sense of things.

For example, I watched my Skins get their butts handed to them today and even though it hurt to watch, I can decipher a number of factors why it happened, none of which are just bad luck. However a similar scenario playing out in Madden would leave me completely befuddled, with little to no rhyme or reason, leaving me frustrated by not only the loss but the perception of scripted outcomes.

That's what's so annoying about reading people state things like penalties and mistakes represented in Madden would upset gamers, without realizing it's the lack of reasoning behind them happening that's upsetting for gamers, not the acts themselves.

No Madden has little to no strategy involved. Guys can act they are Mike Martz on O or the seconding coming of 85 Bears all they want but I say nope. The game is way to simple IMHO.
