How will the (apparent) ESPN price drop affect Madden?

If the ESPN price drop is legit, will EA feel compelled to drop Madden's price as well? Thoughts?

The general person that buys Madden wouldn't buy ESPN over it if ESPN was $15.

Generally, people buy the game they like, regardless of price. Madden outsells the other football games every year, and there is no need for them to drop the price.

They know they will sell copies, and they know Madden is EA Sports' most successful, and popular game.

I don't think ESPN is in a place to dictate and control the football gaming market. In terms of sales and brand recognition, they pale in comparison to Madden.

They can lower their prices, and will likely sell more games as a result, but they won't be able to manhandle EA into lowering its prices also.

I agree with your assessment of the relative positions of EA and VC, and if VC had dropped to $39.99 this wouldn't even be an issue. But by dropping to $19.99 I think they may force EA to respond in kind(even if only by 5-10 dollars).

I really think this is going to hurt Madden this year. To have a top-quality game (much better than Madden in many ways) for only $19.99 will really hurt sales. Why would you pay $49.99 when you can have a game that is just as good, if not better in some ways (ie. presentation), for only $19.99??

I also think that people who would not normally try Espn will now due to the low price, and see that it is an awesome game.

I don't think EA will do anything. Madden will probably still be $49.99. With the way EA has manhandled ESPN the last couple years, ESPN could be free and more people would still probably get Madden.

I agree with baden and jets. People who wouldnt give ESPN a try might now, and maybe parents seeing this is the cheaper of the two might buy it for their child. Plus like Jets said, Madden will probably still outsell and can still go at the $49.99 price. Hopefully the drop some too, yay for me if they do it.

I don't think the price drop will hurt EA anywhere near as much as it will help Sega.
