New to online play

Next week I am going to college and want to get into online play, however I dont want to make anyone mad. Can you guys give me some hints as to what is considered "cheese" and what isnt?

If you play according to what you see on Sundays, it's generally not cheesey. if you are trying to play good football, and not trying to abuse the game AI, you're safe.

Don't call hurryup all game.
Dont drop back 20 yards on every pass.
Don't scramble every play.
Don't go for it every fourth down.
Don't do crazy subs: WRs at QB, etc.

When is it generally ok to go for it on 4th down? I mean is fourth and inches at the 50 ok? Thanks for the info, I will definately keep that in mind.

With Fair Play turned on, EA allows you to usually go for it when you're down late in the game. I'm not sure but I believe every ranked game has Fair Play automatically turned on, so as long as you don't play unranked, you should be fine.

Personally, I only go for it on 4th down if I'm behind in the game(4th qtr). And at times, if I'm just out of field goal range, and only have a yard or two to go. I'll try to have the QB fall forward for the first.

I'm also about to hop online with Live, I've heard good things about this Fair Play stuff. You can't go for two unless it's the 4th quarter, can't onside kick, can't go for it on 4th down except certain situations. It all sounds very good, I used to play the 2K games on Dreamcast and I got very annoyed with some of the cheaters there, glad to see they are making strides to fix some of these issues.
