I think what you have to do is when you go to save a game, you can hit the black/white button for the xbox to turn it on or off

On PS2, go to the save screen in franchise mode and at the top right hand corner there is a thing that allows you to turn it on or off by pressing L2 or R2.

how do i turn auto save off???
