What's With the Madden Art Direction?

I can't take the game seriously when the player's heads are too big and there are no real faces.

I just think it has to do with the fact that they are using a five year old engine. Well older than five years I guess, because who knows how long ago they started developing it. In any case there are limitations with aesthetic improvements that they can make on the current engine.

I don't think the engine determines the art direction, I'm just wondering why they went with the big heads. It's supposed to be a sim, but it reminds me of playing Hot Shots Golf or something with the big noggin characters. I think the Madden next gen shots of Alexander look promising. Real faces and proportional players.

Believe it or not, they were bigger in the 02 Console/03 PC versions. Them was serious heads! I think EA hires art people directly out of programming school so they don't have to pay them very much. Then, if they stick around for more than 6 months, they're promoted to the mailroom and what have you

This is something I have never understood with EA's games. NBA Live has some big heads too.

Anyways yea Madden next gen better look good or there is going to be a big amount of people that are going to be inferiated.
