Help with kicking problem - Madden 08 (PC)

I have been playing Madden 08 on the PC for a few days and had a pretty good idea on how to kick the ball. Tonight, for no apparent reason, the computer initiates the kick prior to me issuing a command, whereas before, nothing would happen until I began moving the (right) joystick (Logitech Dual Action Controller). Needless to say my kicking game has gone to heck. Kickoffs and punts are both effected. I recalibrate the controller to no avail. Is this a setting in Madden???

Any ideas what changed? How can I correct this?
