IMO it's the tech and implementation.

They either need to go all the way with real commentators or use voice actors. They should have the rights to use ABC, NBC, CBS, and NFL Network presentation.

Yes it is scripted, as I said. The solution would be to allow Chris/Gus to actually commentate MADDEN games. Then there wouldn't be a 'scripted' feel. They would be able to do what they do IRL for the game. They did it similarly with the Cameramen, why not with the commentators?

Didn't they try this route with Radio Guy?

Re: Time for voice actors rather than real commentators?

My only complaint about commentary is that often times it feels like Gus and Chris are watching two different games, or in separate booths. No real interaction between the two.

Something like...

Gus: And Wallace catches the bomb from Big Ben!
Chris: Wallace has that blazing deep speed to get open down the field like that

Exactly!! They need to interact with one another. Even the voice-over video was only with Gus Johnson talking. They have the talent to bring the best commentating to any sports game. Not to mention, IRL Chris' big thing is discussing what other people miss: the dline and oline interaction up front or something not part of the action during the play. Conversely in madden, he says the most obvious things. In addition, they need Gus to talk from play to play and never pause in-between plays, because that's when the banter occurs and they can talk about the game as a whole, and talk about stats. When Madden shows stats, Gus and Chris need to talk about the importance of it or it will seem like fluff. It's kind of like a cake: announcing is the ingredients in the cake like banter and interaction, stats is like the icing. You need the two to mix well together for the presentation to flow and feel immersive as a whole. Then the player interactions, pre-game, and post-game are the candles. They look nice, but right away you want to see how it all taste or flows together.

Re: Time for voice actors rather than real commentators?

Voice actors would be ok with me. As long as they sound real....heck why not just bring in Frank Caliendo to do all the voices. He can impersonate Madden and everyone else.....they even use him on NFL today (or one of those Sunday NFL shows). Just as long as I don't hear G W Bush announcing lol......
