Why does this happen

Haven't seen this mentioned anywhere and it really bother me when it happens. A HB or WR is running and I'm controlling a defender coming up to make the tackle but the game won't let me dive, hitstick, or even make contact. My player will just run parallel to the runner for about 5-7 yards before he does anything.

I'm not sure if it's the hard cuts that make the defenders this way of just some type of flaw in the game but it's really bothering me. I was just controlling my safety and my opponent caught a 2 yard pass in the flats and I should have hit him almost immediately. Instead he caught it turned up field and I just ran beside him for a few yards before bringing him down which gave him a first down. Anyone else notice this?

I have noticed this as well. I think it has something to do with the acceleration burst. Once I figured out that heat seeker was automatically getting turned off in my franchise, I started turning it back on in actual games and it fixed the problem. Same thing happens with Interceptions without the ballhawk. My corners or safeties would be in perfect position to swat the ball or pick it off when they were running stride by stride with the receiver. Sure enough when I would press the corresponding buttons they wouldn't even try to stop the pass even if it was a lame duck throw I would pick off 99% of the time. Once I turned it back on my corners were stopping on dimes and picking off bad passes like nobodies business. IF a runner got anywhere near my tackler I was blowing up his blocker and making a play on the ball

Before games I now go into settings and turn heat seeker on and ballhawk on before each game and it has made a world of difference. The controls are just slow and unresponsive without these features turned on.

Re: Why does this happen

I usually have heat seeker off. Is there a specific button you have to press to use it or just any button that initiates a tackle?

Re: Why does this happen

friscob is right. Its as simple as holding square when in range. It really feels like this game was designed to have these features on, because when there off man do my guys play stupid! My corner will be looking dead at a pass when I jump a route and wont put up his hands or nothing allowing the CPU to catch it and break a big gain.

Re: Why does this happen

Is heat seeker on when playing online? Because I just had a guy throw a touchdown pass against me b/c of this. Came up to make the tackle and nothing happened. I even tried diving like someone suggested and nothing happened. Still won the game but that td made it a lot more interesting
