Re: 2010 Pirates

Daniel McCutchen is the #5 starter. Good to see they're going with the better guy, not the one with fewer option years remaining.

A bit off topic, my mom called me from the mall the other day because she was at Lids and they had a sale going on.

"Do you want a new Pirate hat?" she asked.

My reply was simple. "I love you, mom."

I got the Sunday alternate cap last year (just like the basic cap except the "P" has a white outline), now I've got the grey cap with black bill that they wore with the road alternate uniform in like 1997. It's the one on the right in this pic...

Re: 2010 Pirates

Be interesting to see the last of the roster moves before Sunday at 3 p.m. since there are still a couple spots up in the air.

Yeah, and hopefully they can get it together by the time Monday rolls around. I know it's just preseason, but 7-20 . . . Ugh

Re: 2010 Pirates

Always remember that Spring Training means less than nothing.

Anyway, Raynor and Penn stick, Pearce goes to Triple A and Ramon goes on waivers. Pretty much what I expected, and I think the right moves.

Re: 2010 Pirates

ST is meaningless. I remember when Mark Johnson was blasting HR's left and right in the spring and then stunk in the regular season. There are many examples of that in the past.

However, my team prediction is 65-97. For the most part, I think the organization is making the right moves (even if I don't like a few of them), but they aren't there yet. This is going to be a rough season IMO, but will culminate with the arrival of Pedro Alvarez. I haven't been to a game in 2 years (it might seem silly, but I don't want to give the organization a penny of my money right now...plus I can only get to weekend games as I work too many hours during the week), but Alvarez might get me there. Time will tell...

Re: 2010 Pirates

Well, looks like Garret Jones is setting off to prove that his offensive numbers from last year were no fluke right off the bat. HR in his first AB of the season. Like mjb, I haven't been to a game in a few years either, would like to get to one soon though.

Zach duke could easily win 17-18 games if the pirates keep giving him decent run production

Ha, uhhhhh. Duke has been a victim of poor bullpen's in the past, but I think any pitcher could win 17 if they get 11 runs of support per start.
