Are y'all going to watch the game tonight? Ohlendorf vs. Arroyo, hopefully the Pirate Nation will get to raise the Jolly Roger again tonight. Go Buccos!

Why is Charlie Morton being sent to the mound every 5 games when he has not shown that he is capable of getting Major League batters out??

I understand you want to show confidence in a guy, but you are trying to put this team in a position to win games. The guy has had exactly one decent start this year(which I got to go to), but besides that he has looked awful.

You can't tell me there isn't a pitcher in minors that isn't better than him. He just gets absolutely shelled every time out, please stop trotting him out to the mound every 5 days. Its obviously not working, not even a lil bit. And you can't tell me that we don't have a pitcher in the minors who could atleast keep other team from doing a conga line around the basepaths.

Just had to vent, get tired of seeing Morton start over and over and continuosly get clobbered

I know, seriously. Morton stinks, there's not way around it. 1-9 with a 9.35 ERA

Charlie Morton has been placed in the 15 day DL with shoulder fatigue. Steven Jackson has been called up to take his spot and will work in relief meaning Jeff Karstens will likely make what would have been Morton's next scheduled start. Also, it was reported on the news tonight that Brad Lincoln is expected to be called up from Indianapolis in the next 7-10 days and may take Morton's spot in the rotation long term.

Meanwhile, another rocky outing for Zach Duke tonight.

I seem to be talking to myself in this thread as of late.

Aki Iwamura who is hitting a paltry .172 on the season has been benched and will be replaced in the starting lineup by Neal Walker at 2nd base. Walker is hitting .321 in 7 games for the Pirates this year after hitting .321 with 18 doubles, 2 triples, and 6 HR in 43 games with AAA Indianapolis.

Additionally, it has been confirmed that Stephen Strasburg will make his Major League debut on Tues. JUne 8 against the Pirates.

Well I may not post alot But I do read, so your not talking to yourself. Team can frustrate me so sometimes I say nothing instead of venting and coming off as something I'm not.

Example is the other day, more baserunning errors by this team. A team like this simply cannot give outs away, were not good enough to consistently overcome them, yet our baserunning is straight up awul.

John Russell just needs to go, its like he doesn't care. SHow some emotion once in awhile buddy. Yet he defends a guy like Charlie Morton.."We see improvements in his game"...What improvements, where??? He gets clobbered every game and you trying to tell me you see improvements??

If they lose hey its Pirates we expect that. Its just this year we do things that help us lose, and that frustrates me.

Although was Nice to see local boy Neil Walker win it the other nite. Must've been a crazy feeling hitting a GW HR for your local team.

who do u guys think the pirates should draft? assuming mr. harper goes to washington, i really hope they draft SS manny machado. i hear he compares to a-rod. he is 6-2 180 lbs with a good arm, solid contact vs lhp and rhp, and power will be there in the future. if huntington takes a slow throwing righty, i'm gonna be sick. i really want this SS. he would be perfect for our system. we don't really have a good prospect at SS in our system. we have a few good prospects at SP already, so i hope we don't take one. if for some reason we take a SP, i hope its a hard throwing righty or even a hard throwing lefty. no overrated slow throwing lefty please. one thing that is keeping the pirates from drafting machado is the fact that his agent is scott boras. other than that, i dont see why the pirates should not take him.

Its either Machado or Taillion. A chance to get a kid thats built like Josh Johnson is hard to pass up. Machado doesnt have near the bat Arod had coming out of high school, dont know but we dont have one dominant pitcher in our system thats for sure.

Machado, the Pirates recent trend of drafting a pitcher in first round only to find out the guy needs major surgery in a year might sway my vote a lil though.

I know that doesn't fall completely on the Pirates, but just one of those things ya get tired of hearing about.

Plus like was already said, we don't have a ss of the future in our system

Machado seemed to be the main focus on the FSN prospect watch during the rain delay on Friday night. If it is Machado, I hope he does become an MLB SS instead of having to move to another position because of 'Projected size'. If not Machado, then I'd like to have Taillon. Given the success of drafting first round pitchers in Pittsburgh's past, I'm leaning toward Machado. As Pirate fans continually look forward to the future, it'd be assuring to have a projected five tool talent at short in the system. Unfortunately, if either is drafted, they are, what might seem to be, light years away from PNC Park.

we're a little under 15 hours from the mlb draft this season, at least from where i'm sitting in pittsburgh, and all i hear on 93.7 the fan, espn radio, and sports websites is that the bucs are taking pitchers, pitchers, pitchers. i mean its not like the pirates have great pitching depth, but i think manny machado is unpassable in this draft. the pirates have pretty much no good prospect up the middle in our organization. machado looks really good and i'm pretty sick of the pirates taking pitchers that are good #3 and all-american hitters in high school.

I think both Machado and Taillon are hard to pass on. I've taken a step back from my do-not-want-pitcher stance, and I would be more than all right with Taillon. It's rare you have a guy who throws as hard as 99 and it's not his best pitch. He could get to Majors within 3 years (barring no major setbacks), while I think Machado is a minimum of 4 if he stays at SS.

They don't have an elite middle infield prospect or an ace-level guy (Lincoln, Morris, Owens, Wilson, HS guys could all be solid but none have ceilings that touch Taillon's) so both fit needs as well.

However, I get why Pirates fans are gun shy when it comes to pitchers. But, this is not Bullington or Burnett or JVB. He isn't a guy with a ceiling of a "number three" starter or something like that. He's a legit pitcher with four legit pitches, a big body, and great character. Yes, he could get injured, but Machado could possibly not stick at SS or develop his five tools. Every pick comes with risk, and if you look at the top-rated prep pitchers, they are about as safe as the top-rated prep hitters in the past few years. The only "safe" bet (and that's even stretching it) are top-rated college hitters, but there are none that are on the Harper/Machado/Taillon level this year.
