It mostly depends on the mode you play and your skill as a hitter. I've been playing on Legend mode and it took until my 3rd year before my skill and the player's abilities got good enough to start hitting for average and a little power. And with those struggles and being a bench player for quite a while, training points were much harder to come by and had to be used for reaching goals and making sure they didn't start regressing.

But I do agree with the power thing. Right handed power is by far the quickest way to become a great hitter. Contact stats will give you more line drives and, along with Vision, helps your PCI get larger but it still pales in comparison to power. Without power, fielders get to most of the balls you hit. With power, the ball gets by them much more often.

I spent $10 on the RTTS points from the PSN store. I used them and at the age of 21 right now im 95 rhp 88 lhp and 88 rhc 85 lhc. Im in the majors for the Orioles only because they traded Atkins for me and a pitcher from the Rays. After my first season i batted .308 with 29 hrs and 97 rbi.

I also saved two separate RTTS files so i can use the same player over and over. this way i dont waste the $10 i spent

I really really really (really) hope they make some major changes to this mode for MLB 11. I think incorporating some player types, equipment boosts, goal changes, maybe spending your earned money on better training/equipment, better clubhouse integration, franchise integration...or any of the above would help making this mode so much better. Right now there is almost no way of having a unique experience when creating a fielder or pitcher more than once. The only thing that is slightly random is whether you get traded or injured. I wish we could create a unique player almost every time, like a speedster/slap hitter or a lumber power hitter, or a 5 tool guy, or a flame throwing pitcher who has major attitude and loses it when runners are on base....argh!!!

Not really sure what that brought to the OP. My bad.

To me this sounds like it takes the whole fun out of Road To The Show. Why speed up the process in this game mode, that's what it's all about! Garrett Jones Worth the Wait for Pirates! Garrett took the long way to success in the big leagues, playing 1,038 games over 11 seasons in the minor leagues before entrenching himself in the majors as the Pirates' right fielder last year! That's the definition of Road To The Show!

Do you swing for contact or power or do swing based on the count and situation?

Well the problem is the fact that other attributes decline..or do you spend the 40 points at the last sec(before they decline)?

There's seriously no reason to use the contact swing unless you have 2 strikes (so you can check), the power swing trumps the contact swing in almost every conceivable way.
